The 73-year-old former congressman had been in "very critical condition" since a tractor accident Tuesday night at his family farm in Ohio. He served in the United States House of Representatives for 17 years, until he was to expelled in 2002 following his conviction in federal court of accepting bribes, filing false tax returns, and forcing his staff to perform personal chores for him on his farm and on his houseboat.
