The year John Dingell Jr., D-Dearborn, was first sworn to the United States House of Representatives, Disneyland opened in Los Angeles and General Motors was the first American corporation to make more than $1 billion in a year. A lot has changed in America since 1955, but Southeast Michigan's congressional representation has remained constant.
