Throughout his career, New York mayor Bill de Blasio has been accused of using his family as a political prop. During his 2009 campaign for public advocate, then-council member Charles Barron, a former Black Panther, called de Blasio's frequent use of his black wife and biracial children in campaign literature 'disgraceful' and 'an insult to the black community.'
