Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement leader retires days after contentious hearing on rape billing

Robert Mehrtens, deputy director of the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement, submitted retirement paperwork Oct. 24, said executive director Joey Watson. Records show he was the highest paid employee in the agency, which came under fire by lawmakers earlier that same week.
